Why do we celebrate JUNETEENTH?
On June 19, 1865, Union General Gordon Granger arrived in Galveston, Texas, to announce the end of the Civil War and proclaim freedom for the last remaining enslaved African Americans. This was more than two years after President Abraham Lincoln’s Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Emancipation Day, marks this pivotal moment in American history. Join us in honoring Juneteenth, a joyous celebration of freedom, resilience, and the rich cultural heritage of our African American community.
